Maize for Zambia

A failed harvest in Zambia is pushing the nation towards a serious food shortage in the coming months. At least 1.7 million Zambians need food and the situation is deteriorating rapidly. Maize prices have risen by more than 60% from a year ago, pushing this basic cereal beyond the reach of the poorest people leading them to hunger and malnutrition. To help them through until the next harvest, maize will be purchased providing food for families in rural villages.

$65 CAD will provide food for a family of five per month.

2006 Campaign Results

Thanks for your participation in the Rice Raiser Campaign 2006

Zambia villagers receive 25 kg. bags of maize to help see them through until the next harvest (May/June).

Thanks to all who participated, In March, 198 families in a village in Zambia received a 25 kg. bag of maize (corn meal). The average size of a family in this village is 8 persons resulting in 1536 beneficiaries. This community was greatly affected by a semi-drought in late 2005 and this food will enable them to survive without going hungry until the upcoming harvest.

Comments from the organizer “It was a great blessing to see peple receiveing each a 25 kg. bag of corn meal which will be converted into Shima or Ugali which is the staple food here in Zambia. It is a great blessing and encouragement for the people as a sign of God’s care and love for them.”

Thanks for your contributions!!! Thanks to our partners Hungry for Life who coordinated this relief work.
