The Rice Raiser

The Rice Raiser is a food drive / fund raiser designed to feed the poor both locally and internationally at the same time. While the focus is on educating youth, anyone can participate in a Rice Raiser Campaign. Any individual or group of people through school, work, church or clubs can learn and respond to hunger through the Rice Raiser.

Here’s how it works

1. The Rice Raiser provides information on global hunger. We encourage everyone to learn what is going on in their communities and in four different developing countries throughout the world.

2. You respond to what you’ve learned by collecting bags of rice or non-perishable food AND cash at the same time.

All the rice that is collected stays in the community and helps feed hungry people through the food banks. All the cash collected (100% of designated funds) is sent to four different developing countries to help hungry people globally.

Together we learn that hunger occurs for different reasons and that it is indeed global, even in our own part of the world.

Join our membership today and have access to our resources which include hunger facts and more. See MEMBERS on our home page.

The Rice Raiser Campaign is a Hunger Response International initiative and partners with other organizations that are involved in relief and development internationally. This demonstrates that hunger cannot be solved by one group of people or one organization, but requires the combined efforts of all of us together to see hunger changed.

Hunger Response International is a Canadian Registered Charity and donations over $10.00 can receive income tax receipts when accompanied with required personal information.

The Rice Raiser Pilot – 2005

The Rice Raiser ran a pilot program in 2005 in which students from MEI Secondary School participated. The results were: 3000 people in developing countries were provided food for one week from the funds that were raised and the local food bank was supplied with 842 kilograms of rice to feed those in need within the community. These great results showed that the Rice Raiser is a good and inclusive way for people to work together to combat global hunger.

The Annual Rice Raiser Campaign – 2006

The Rice Raiser 2006 Campaign runs from January 9 – 31. Everyone is welcome to participate but the focus this first year is on Abbotsford, BC and as it develops, the Rice Raiser will grow and multiply itself to other communities. Please let us know if you would like the Rice Raiser to come to your community next year.
